This new home is located on a heavily wooded upslope site in the Berkeley Hills. The design challenge was siting the home to both adapt to the steep grade and preserve the mature oak trees. The design that emerged kept the footprint of the building small and well back off the street to be above the most significant trees. Exterior materials are keyed to the colors of the oak bark and foliage further reinforcing the sense of place of this unique site. A large rock outcrop anchors the upslope side of the site plan and provides a centerpiece of intimate views to the back patios and landscape
